HBL was founded in 2006. A small, Ottawa-based, independently owned and operated business, it is quickly gaining a reputation for quality work. HBL offers a full range of landscaping services and is continuing to broaden its spectrum of expertise.

Owner

Greg Howlett has had a fascination with horticulture since early childhood, always enthralled by his grandmother’s gardens and prize-winning roses. He first entered the field at the age of 9, mowing lawns and maintaining gardens in his neighbourhood. He graduated from art school in 2002, and re-entered the horticulture field by starting a job at a greenhouse in Lakefield, Ontario. Soon after, he moved into more residential territory, installing landscapes with various companies, and doing a few side jobs for extra experience. In 2005, he graduated from Algonquin College with a technician’s certificate in horticulture. Now armed with training in nursery production, arboriculture, design, construction, entomology, and turf maintenance, Greg went back into the working world for one more season before starting his own business. He is now experienced in many facets of construction such as framing, flooring, tiling, finished carpentry, wood finishing, painting, cabinetry, trim work, door and window replacements.
